Power of Interdependence

I have learned the power of the term interdependence. I believe, for performance excellence, organizations must understand the power of the principle of interdependence.

I refer to interdependence in a supplier-customer context. Theoretically, any organization can own both elements of this relationship. But this is not the case. Much is procured.

As independent businesses, each of the two elements , would aim to be profitable and successful. But success requires that there is no weak link in the supplier-customer relationship. Both should be working for a common goal: delighted user.

Let me amplify. In a hospital (the customer) there are several services that are outsourced to suppliers. As for example housekeeping, laundry, meals, and more. For patient (user) delight there is no room for error in this relationship.

Likewise, an auto manufacture procures several components from suppliers. The auto owner / driver (user) is not charitable about failures. Is there a case for interdependence?

I wish to urge all applicants for the IMC RBNQA to seriously address the principle of interdependence. Please encourage your suppliers to also adopt the IMC RBNQA performance excellence model, and at some stage to participate in the annual competition.

Finally, the equation for success through interdependence reads: 1 + 1 > 2
