Dr Prem Nair

,

Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre

Dr Prem Nair, Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AIMS), Kochi, has an egalitarian and altruistic approach to life. He specializes in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Liver Diseases.

Although he was well established in Los Angeles, Dr Nair surrendered his position as Professor of Medicine at the University of Southern California, College of Medicine, after meeting Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi in the US in 1989. He subsequently joined her ashram. Later, he was requested to lead her hospital project in Kochi.

In 1998, AIMS was formally inaugurated. Over the past sixteen years, AIMS has grown from a 115 bed specialty hospital, to a 1450 bed super-specialty tertiary care health centre, with an attached medical college hospital. The annual patient turnover at AIMS is over 4,60,000 out-patients and almost 40,000 in-patients. Of these, two-thirds receive either free or concessional treatment. In addition, almost half the 60,000 surgeries are performed free. The prime mover – Dr Prem Nair.

Dr Nair is a perfectionist. He has quality and reliability in his DNA. AIMS was the first medical college in India to be certified by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare (NABH). Also, being an educational institution, AIMS has been certified by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC). In order to make NABH and NAAC effective management systems, Dr Nair has implemented Continual Quality Improvement, organization-wide. Always challenging the standard. This is what makes AIMS different.

Dr Nair considers all employees to be partners for service to patients and other customers. In order to catalyze this quality management culture, he has empowered employees to serve patients with compassion, as well as deliver quality care. With outstanding results.

We congratulate Dr Prem Nair. Our Qimpro Gold Standard 2014, for Healthcare.
