National Demonstration Project (NDP)
In January 2010, QCI recognized the need to turbo-change the approach towards Continuous Improvement in NABH accredited hospitals. In their global research for appropriate methodologies, they zeroed in on the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) methodology.
A National Demonstration Project (NDP) on LSS in Healthcare was conceptualized.
Qimpro Consultants Private Limited was invited by QCI to facilitate the training and implementation of LSS at hospitals selected by QCI.
Nine NABH accredited hospitals from western and southern India were shortlisted by QCI to participate in the NDP. A total of 18 improvement projects were successfully completed in these nine hospitals. The projects focused on reducing the turnaround time, or idle waiting time, of various processes. Reducing the Turn Around Time (TAT) for Patient Discharge and Reducing the waiting time at OPD were some of the popular projects addressed in the NDP. There were few interesting projects like, Improving the TAT for Room Allotment and Improving Utilization of OT among others.
Throughout the NDP, the hospitals exhibited total commitment, enthusiasm and energy. Each project delivered positive results in improving process efficiencies. The projects led to significant improvements in patient satisfaction and reduction in cost of operations.
