Abstract
Vikram Cement is a reputed cement manufacturing company. This project focuses on reducing cycle time for indent processing, from indent generation to indent clearance by the Stores department. The rationale being that the delay in cycle time was the major cause of dissatisfaction for internal customers as it affected their planning and this was leading to direct and indirect losses adding to the cost of poor quality. The project goal was to reduce indent processing time for items other than min-max items varying from 10 – 50 days to maximum 15 days. The team followed a structured methodology to identify the problem. Based on the brainstorming session, indentor perception survey and data collection regarding the time lapse, a cause and effect diagram was drawn up. There was no single clear cut root cause identified therefore various alternate solutions for each root cause were developed. Appropriate remedial action was then taken. The result was that there was a gain of 7.33 days on an average during the trial run. Solutions would continue to be implemented which would help in achieving the target of maximum 15 days.
