| Hindalco, Renukoot is a reputed aluminium manufacturer. This project focuses on improving the efficiency of the production process. The mission was to find an alternative to the use of an open cruce for metal tapping from pots as it lead to temperature loss and heat exposure to workmen. The goal was to eliminate reheating and extra fuel consumption therefore leading to increased customer satisfaction. The team used structured Continuous Quality Improvement tools such as brainstorming, why-why and cause and effect diagram to ascertain probable causes and their solutions. They finally zeroed in on one option. To develop a vacuum cruce with an integrated siphon system which would reduce heat loss and also minimise handling time for separate siphoning. The tangible gains as a result were a saving of Rs 69.01 lakhs per year. The intangible gains were workmen not getting exposed to fumes and hazardous gases thereby promoting a safe and clean working environment amongst others. |
