| Hindalco Industries Ltd. is the Flagship Company of Aditya Birla Group, which is India's third largest business house with a turnover of Rs. 280 billion, and assets valued at over Rs. 265 billion. It needed to reduce the die set-up time in its aluminum extrusion operation to increase production volumes. About 1.15 hrs/day of the Net Running Time (NRT) were lost in the extrusion operation involving 40 changes of dies in three shifts to extrude different sections, this means loss of 5.17 minutes/die change i.e. 3.45 hrs/day. The main area of concern of the operation personnel was to improve the available operating time of the presses thus increasing the NRT, which, in turn, would result in enhancement of the product's market share, increase in profitability and the OTIF (on time in full) delivery commitments. |
