This project focuses on improving the efficiency of the production process. The mission of their project was to improve the capacitor collection system of the assembly machine. The rationale being that the assembly machine is the most expensive investment and hence has to be optimally utilized to maximize profits. Using structured Continuous Quality Improvement methodology and tools the team shortlisted bar change, extractor mechanism and capacitor collection system as the major problem areas. Accordingly appropriate corrective measures were undertaken. As a result of which, the tangible benefits realized were reduced rejections, increased productivity and a reduction in breakdowns. The intangible benefits were less recurring expenditure on tooling, better cleanliness of the machine, less operator intervention, ease of operation, reduced change over time and setting time. The company has saved Rs 90 lakhs through this project. |
